    sites
  • Located on eight leading blog host
  • Blog-City, BlogSpot, Diaryland, LiveJournal,
    Pitas, TypePad, Weblogger and Xanga.

  • The surveyed estimated that there have been over
    4.12 million blogs created on theses eight blog
    hosting sites.

Abandoned blogs
  • Many blogs had been abandoned since their
    creation
  • 2.72 million blogs have been either permanently
    or temporarily abandoned
  • 1.09 million blogs were one day wonders which
    were abandoned after the first day

  • Males created 40.7 percent of the blog sites but
    accounted for 46.4 percent of the abandoned blog

  • Survey noted no big differences by age or blog
    host concerning the abandonment rate

  • 106,579 of the hosted blogs were updated on
    average at least once a week
  • Fewer than 50,000 were updated daily
  • Only 13,600 blogs were resumed after being

  • nanoaudiences are the logical outcome of
    continued growth in blogs

  • The key is that an iceberg is never what it
    appears, and so it is with todays blogging
    community.
