Title: Savannah Animals

1
Savannah Animals
  • Listen to and read the pages about savannah
animals. When you have finished reading, click
on the yellow button to turn the page.

2
  • This animal is part of the cat family. It looks
    cuddly, but watch out!

3
Lion
  • Lions have a large mane of hair around their
heads to protect their necks. They live in
prides. Lionesses do not have a mane.

4
  • The next savannah animal is well camouflaged.

5
Zebra
  • A zebras stripes make it hard for a predator to
spot them among tall grasses. A zebra mother has
the same markings as her foal.

6
  • This savannah bird cannot fly and looks very
    strange with its long neck.

7
Ostrich
  • Although ostriches look strange, they are very
fast runners. Ostriches use their beaks to dig
nests in the sand. A group of ostriches takes
turns to look after the new chicks.

8
  • The final animal is big! They live in herds and
the females are in charge of the group.

9
Elephants
  • Only the females and the young elephants live
together, the male elephants do not live with
them. Elephants use their trunks to dig deep
holes for water. Elephants are also very fond of
    bathing.

Now you are going to imagine that you have been
on safari vacation in a savannah. You are going
to send a post card to your friends at school.
Use the post card template on the next page to
tell about the animals you have seen on safari,
and describe what one of them was doing.
