Total Macroinvertibrates
  • In Mrs.Cramers LEAP class we found 121
    macroinvertebrates in all at the Roland Park in
    Akron, PA. The macroinvertebrates we found are
    snails, water spiders, leech eggs, water fleas,
    bristle worms, damsle fly nymphs, caddis flies,
    mosquito larvae, may fly nymphs, scuds, midge
    larvae, water mites, dragon fly nymphs, crawling
    water beetles, backswimmers, and boatman. Those
    are all the macroinvertebrates we found at the
    Roland Park in Akron, PA.

Backswimmer and boatman
  • We found 10 backswimmers and 1 boatman

Bristle worms and damselfly nymphs
  • Bristle worms can be found with or without hair.
  • Bristle worms move by stretching and pulling
    their bodies along.
  • Our LEAP group found 6 bristle worms.
  • Damselfly nymphs measure 2-4 cm long.
  • They have three legs and three tails.
  • Our LEAP group found 2 damselfly nymphs.

Dragon fly nymph and crawling water beetles
  • We found two dragon fly nymphs and three
    crawling water beetles.

Leech eggs , Water fleas
  • We found five leech eggs , and twenty eight water
    fleas.

Caddis fly , Mosquito larvae
  • At Akron Park , PA we found one caddis fly and
    one mosquito larvae.

May fly nymph and Scud
  • May fly nymphs are very small.
  • They have 3 pairs of legs and 3 tails. brown, or
    gray.
  • Our leap group found 3 May Fly Nymphs.
  • Scuds are fast sideway swimmers and look like
    fuzzy shrimp.
  • They have 7 pairs of legs and are approximately
    1 centimeter long.
  • Our leap group found 1 Scud.

The midge larvae and water mite
  • We found 0NE.
  • A midge larvae has a camouflaged body.
  • This macro invertebrate has no legs.
  • It is very thin and wiggles a lot out of water.
  • It is very small.
  • Our leap group found three 3

Snails and Water Spiders
  • In Mrs. Cramers LEAP class at Akron Elementary
    we found 8 water spiders and 46 snails. We went
    to the pond at Roland park in Akron, Pa and found
    these.
