• Used to drill rock, break up
• pavement, etc.
• Two Step Process.

• From 1991 2004
• 16 workers were killed due to Jackhammer related
  accidents
• OHSA Regulations
• 1926.301 Power-Operated Hand Tools
• (b). Pneumatic power tools
• 1. Pneumatic power tools shall be secured to the
  hose or whip by some positive means .
• The use of hoses for hoisting or lowering of
  tools shall not be permitted.
• All hoses exceeding ½-inch inside diameter shall
  have a safety device at the source of supply to
  reduce pressure.

Safety Procautions

• Use of jackhammers can cause fatigue and strains.
  
• Avoid continuous,
• repetitive work.
• Take multiple breaks
• during the day.

• Loss of control can occur
• Heavy rubber grips reduce these effects by
  providing a secure handhold.
• Also wear thick working gloves to help grip and
  minimize vibrations.

• Struck by flying debris
• Workers operating a jackhammer must wear safety
  glasses. A face shield should be used.
• Always wear a hard hat
• Long pants and sleeves
• Jackhammer slips or falls on foot
• Steel toed safety shoes should
• be worn at all times.
• Always spread legs far apart

• Jackhammer s emit over 100 decibels at two meters
  due to the repeated hammer blows combined with
  the explosive exhaust of the air.
• Working with jackhammers requires proper,
  effective use of appropriate hearing protection.
• Including ear plugs or ear muffs.
