What is Prothesis?
An Artificial Extension that replaces missing
parts of the body

Corrective Lens
Used to treat myopia (near-sightedness),
hypermetropia (far-sightedness, astigmatism and
presbyopia

• First recorded use of glasses was in 1st century
  A.D.
• Evolved into their modern form in 1727

Cochlear Implants
A surgically implanted hearing aid that improves
the sense of sound
Does not amplify sound, but instead helps
stimulate the auditory nerves

Artificial Limbs
Replaced amputated limbs and allow the amputee to
regain a limited range of motion

Replacement Joints
Replaces painful, arthritic, worn or diseased
joints

Ocular Prosthetics
Surgically replaces a missing eye with an
artificial. Ocular Prosthetics do not provide
vision
