Persian Wars.
  • The Greeks first war was in 500 B.C. They fought
    Persia, so the war was called the Persian War.
    Even though the Persians had more men the Greeks
    over came and won the war. That war changed
    Greece forever. After the Persian War people from
    Athens made friends with people from Greece and
    formed a protection for the city-states.

Timeline of Greek History
  • 31 B.C.-A.D. 330 Greece is under control of Rome.
  • 323-331 B.C. Hellenistic Age
  • 323 B.C. Alexander dies
  • 338 B.C. Greece goes under the control of
    Alexander the Great.
  • 404-431B.C. Peloponnesian War started
  • 480-500 B.C. Persian War starts.

Architecture In Greece
  • Greeks life was controlled by religion. Greeks
    made temples to honor and worship god and
    goddesses. To build the temples they use 3
    different types of columns. They were called the
    Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian.
  • The DORIC style is sturdy and its top which is
    called the capital is just plain.
  • The IONIC style is not fatter but thinner and
    much more elegant. The capital is mostly
    decorated with a volute.
  • The CORINTHIAN style is kind of seldom. It was
    the most common for Roman temples.

Greek Foods.
  • Greeks used irrigation along the shore line. That
    is were they also grew their crops. The grew and
    ate olives, grapes, and figs. The kept goats to
    make milk and cheese. In the plains the grew
    wheat to make bread. Fish seafood, and wine (made
    at home) were very popular foods. In the large
    more populated city-states meat could be bought.
    But it was mostly used for religious scarifies.

Alexander the Great
  • He was the most famous person in all of Greece,
    but he wasnt even from their. He was born in
    Macedonia in 356 B.C. Alexander got his horse by
    being the only person who could tame it. He used
    that horse in every battle. When Alexander was 20
    his father who was the king of Macedonia was
    murdered and Alexander became king.He first took
    over Greece, Persia, Egypt, and India. By the
    time he was 30 he had taken over the whole world.
    Alexander died at the age of 33 in 323 B.C. Many
    people thought he died of a fever but everyone
    else thought he was poisoned.

Greek Clothing
  • Greek clothing was very simple. Just like us they
    wore different clothes for different weather. In
    the summer men and women wore linen and they wore
    wool in the winter. They clothing was died so
    that it could be colorful.

Education in Athens
  • In Athens the kids had to go to school to learn
    certain things like the arts, peace, and war.
    Kids were taught a home by their mom or a boy
    slave until they were about 6 or 7 years old.
    Kids from 6 to 14 went to primary schools in the
    neighborhood or to private schools. Women could
    not be teachers, all teachers were men. He could
    teach drama, speaking, government,art, reading,
    writing, math, and music too. When kids turned 18
    they would go to military school until they are
    20 years old and graduate.
