060 CLIMATE CHANGE AND COASTAL WATER
A simple experiment to show how coastal water
levels may raise due to the melting of glaciers
because of climate change
MATERIALS REQUIRED
A polythene bag or a ziplock bag A basin of
water A strip of paper with cm scale marked on
it ( facility for refrigerator is good else use
ready made ice)

Pour water in the ziplock bag and leave in for
refrigeration till ice is formed. Open the
ziplock bag and remove the chunk of ice. This
represents an ice berg. Transfer this ice berg
into the water in the water basin, whose water
level is already marked on the cm sheet attached
to it.

Leave in warm condition and watch ice melt and
how the water level rises. Try this experiment
at different places and record your observations.
