The blind spot is the area on the retina, without
receptors, that respond to light. Therefore an
image that falls on this region will not be seen.
It is in this region that the optic nerve exits
the eye on its way to the brain
MATERIALS REQUIRED
Paper Marker Scale
marker pen
paper
scale

12 to 14 cm
X
Take a piece of paper and mark an X on the right
side. Take the scale and measure about 12 to 14
cm to the left of the X and draw a dot about the
size of a coin.

Hold the paper in front of you and close your
right eye. Look at the X. Even though you are
looking at the X you should be able to see the
dot out of the corner of your eye. Keep looking
at the X and slowly move the paper from left to
right and back and forth until at a point the dot
disappears from the corner of your eye. This
is the blind spot. The area on the retina without
receptors and it is in this region that the optic
nerve exits the eye on its way to the brain
