079 RATE OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS
To study the principles of photosynthesis using
Hydrilla plant
MATERIALS REQUIRED
Empty ball pen refills. Hydrilla. Beaker
containing water. Card board with a slit to hold
the refill

Take an empty ball pen refill tube and fix a
small twig of Hydrilla plant tightly at one end.
Take a ball pen refill tube and fix a small twig
of Hydrilla plant tightly at one end. Fill the
tube with water and seal the other end with wax.
Insert the set up into a beaker containing water
to submerge plant deep. Make tube to stand
straight using cardboard with slit. Keep the set
up in sun and count the air bubbles produced by
plant at regular intervals.

Wrap the set up with green, blue, red coloured
transparent papers and conduct the experiment as
described above to study the impact of coloured
light on photosynthesis. Compare the number of
bubbles produced in different coloured conditions
as seen in the next experiment.
