What is Identity Theft?
  • Identity Theft is when someone uses your personal
    information without your permission
  • Identity Theft isnt just your Social Security
    number, it can be your mail, or credit card,
    listening to your telephone calls getting your
    credit card number
  • Some may use Identity Theft to enable illegal
    immigration, terrorism, espionage, or changing
    identity permanently
  • Fastest growing offence in the parts of the world
    today.

How to Minimize Identity Theft
  • Request credit reports from all credit bureaus.
  • Check for unauthorized charges and fraudulent
    accounts.
  • If any unauthorized accounts or accounts that
    have been messed with close them immediately.
  • File a report with your police department of
    where it occurred, get a copy of police report,
    and show it to your credit card companies or
    other companies to show that you have been
    victimized.
  • If you believe you are a suspect of identity
    theft, contact your credit bureaus fraud
    department and ask them to put a fraud alert on
    your account and watch if someone opens
    fraudulent accounts in your name.

To Prevent Identity Theft
  • To reduce identity theft do not carry extra
    credit cards, your Social Security Card, birth
    certificate or passport.
  • Have your name removed from marketing list, and
    have your name and address removed from the phone
    book and other directories.
  • Install a locked mailbox at your residence to
    prevent mail theft.
  • When you order checks instead of having them sent
    to your house go to the bank and pick them up.
  • When paying bills do not leave the envelopes with
    your checks inside at your mailbox for the postal
    carrier to pick up .
