iStan Fluids
  • GU Source
  • Since there are only two fluid tanks in iStan
drop yellow food coloring into catheter bag.
  • When clear fluid hits fluid will turn yellow.
  • ICP
  • Find Grey and Orange Connectors and tubing in
    inventory Kit
  • Push Clear fluid though Syringe
  • 60-100 cc
  • Do not fill past 100cc as bladder will stretch
    and could burst
  • IV Priming Source
  • IV Priming Tube Left side of neck-fills IV Flash
    Bladder.
  • Fill up to 150ml of distilled water.
  • When resistance is noted stop filling as not
    to stretch venous bladder.
  • When full bladder will give up to 50ml flash.

Removing Fluids From iStan
  • Connect Drain Bottle to Yellow Vent Tube
    on side iStan
  • Pump sprayer until distilled water flows through
    Blue Fill tube.
  • Repeat process until all colored water is removed
    from simulator.
  • Remove excess fluid from Garden Sprayer or use
dry Garden Sprayer and pump air through lines to
remove excess moisture and lessen chances of mold
    and blockages.
  • ICP and IV Flash Bladder
  • Use syringe to extract fluids from ICP and IV
    Flash bladder.
  • Flush with Distilled water using syringe to pump
clear distilled water back into these sites.
  • Use syringe to extract fluids.
  • Continue until all fluids have been removed,
leaving the bladders as dry as possible.

iStan Power Information
  • CO2 Cartridge
  • Cartridge lasts only 24 minutes.
  • Only use for first response strip to show
  • that it is present.
  • Using cartridge for full scenario is not
  • beneficial.
  • To get more CO2 hook-up time, hook
  • Stan up to wall CO2
  • Turning on iStan
  • Find Power Switch Left side just inside abdomen
  • Lever moves Down for ON and Up for Off

Tips and Tricks for iStan
  • Latex The IV and refill tubing is made of
    latex
  • Weight 125-130lbs
  • Chest Tubes 26 Fr for old iStan and 36 for new
(be sure to check with Customer Support-they can
    tell by the model )
  • Voices Male and Female. Wave filed can be
    loaded through jump drive. Students/faculty
fluent in other languages can use wireless
microphone to give ethnic voices from around the
    world.
  • Positions Istan can sit in a wheelchair and be
pushed down the hall while running. He can lay
and has an articulated skeleton that enables
    posing positions.
  • Making my simulation real Use your
imagination and use costumes, wigs, make-up,
  • shoes, clothes, toys cards, flowers,
magazines, remote control and TV, food tray,
    Phone
  • etc
  • Wireless Can walk up to 100ft away from
iStan and behind wall with iStan still accepting
  • wireless commands from system.

11
More Tips and Tricks for iStan
  • Fluid Linked Physiology When iStan bleeds his
blood losses will affect physiology like a human.
If more than one site is used at a time his
    numbers will dramatically change.
  • Tourniquet application is recognized in the
    system when done correctly.
  • Portability Can be transported by air, on
stretcher or lie in bed. Sits up in vehicle and
    chair.
  • X-rays X-rays can be loaded onto jump drive and
dropped onto desktop of Instructor Workstation.
    Simply open to simulate.
  • Compressor METI is in the process of replacing
older compressors. If your compressor runs
continuously call METI Customer Support. In the
meantime there are options to prevent this 1.
Hook up until to air compressor. Be sure to make
Customer Support aware so they can send the
proper conversion kit. 2. Lowering the
respiratory rate or blinking speed will take less
air. Refrain from pushing fluids from multiple
places at once. These steps will keep compressor
    for running so often.

Defibrillation Can Dos for iStan
  • Can Dos
  • Use pads Directly on Skin
  • Hands free cables found through Phillips, Zoll
    and Lifepack.
  • Base time between defibrillation on ACLS Protocol
as iStan can get hot and is only a machine.
  • Monophasic and biphasic will be to calibrate your
unit to METIs with updated software (check with
customer support to see if you have updated
    version)

13
Defibrillation Cannot Dos for iStan
  • Cannot Do
  • If Pads are left directly on skin they will stick
and cause skin deterioration or may tear skin.
    (remove as quickly as possible)
  • Can use Hands-Free however cannot use gel and
recommend not using sticky pads. They can ruin
    skin. Hands-Free attachments (compatible with
iStan) available through METI sales rep and
    customer support.
  • Not recommended to use more than 3 times during 3
minutes (pads will dry out. Using a dry pad can
cause severe damage to internal components or
    melt the skin

14
