student is to leave the campus until school is
dismissed without the permission from the office.
Students may be check-out by parents or
    guardians at the office.
  • Telephone Use
  • The school phone is a business phone and should
not be used by students except in cases of an
    emergency.
  • Messages Please call the school secretary
before 230 p.m. if you have a message to be
    delivered to a student.
  • Attendance
  • Students attending Vian Elementary School can
miss no more than ten days per semester.
Students who have been absent must have an
admission slip issued from the Principals
office. In order to receive an excused absence,
a written note or verbal consent must be produced
to the principal's office by 820 a.m. on the
first day of the students return to school
    following an absence.
  • Section 146 of the school laws of Oklahoma
states, It shall be the duty of any parent,
guardian or person having charge of any child of
compulsory attendance age to notify the childs
school concerning the cause of any absences of
    such child.
  • Truancy
  • A student who is truant all day or for one or
more class periods may be suspended from school.
  • Subsequent truancy may result in suspension for
the remainder of the semester and loss of all
class credits for that semester. Cases of
excessive patterned tardiness will be treated the
    same as truancies.
  • Students absent from class to participate in
school sponsored activities or for the reason of
illness, a doctors appointment, or a death in
the immediate family, must get all current class
assignments from their teachers and, upon return
to class, must turn in completed assignments.
Students will not be permitted to make up work

excused admit. Work must be made up within two

  • Bus Transportation
  • All Vian District buses operate according to
    State Department of Education regulations.
Students are to regard conduct on the bus as they
would the classroom. Safety is stressed. The
driver is to have absolute authority and is to
maintain discipline in order to prevent
accidents. Riding the bus is a privilege, not a
right, provided by the Vian Board of Education.
The administration has the authority to suspend
any student from riding the bus should student
    conduct warrant it.
  • In order to minimize problems resulting from bus
    transportation, students must maintain the
    following rules
  • Arrive at the bus stop five minutes ahead of
schedule. Arriving too early may result in
    mischief.
  • While waiting for the bus, remain in the loading
    area, not in the street.
  • Wait until the bus stops before advancing to
    board the bus.
  • Board the bus and be seated.
  • Cooperate with and obey the bus driver at all
    times.
  • Talk softly with your neighbor when conversing on
    the bus.
  • Be completely quiet when the bus reaches and
    approaches the railroad tracks.
  • Keep the aisle of the bus clear of bags, books,
    feet, etc.
  • Keep head, hands and arms inside the bus at all
    times.
  • Older children should assist younger ones in
getting on and off the bus.
  • No eating, drinking or gum chewing on the bus.
  • Immunization
  • An immunization card signed by a physician or a
health department official must be presented, in
compliance with state law, before any child is
    enrolled in school.

the student to charge (except during the last
    three weeks of school).
  • Student Eligibility for Activities
