• Television station owned my Gray Communications,
  Inc.
• Network Affiliation is CBS.
• Covers 17 Counties.
• Markets to Waco, Temple and Bryan.
• Only local television news, sports, and weather
  department in Bryan/College Station.

Application Process

• Get brushed up on current events in News.
• Have an internship Resume.
• Go to KBTX and Meet with Bruces Kates.
• An internship application will need to be filled
  out (and possibly a current events test, verbal
  or written).

KBTX Rules and Expectations

• Show up at time scheduled.
• Wear business casual clothing.
• Always look presentable to public.
• Expected to work independently at times.

Duties and Responsibilities performed during
Internship

• Wrote and rewrote stories for broadcast.
• Reported and help reporters with stories.
• Helped with editing and producing.
• Put together own story package to air.

Projects Performed during Internship

• Help archive old footage of September 11th
  episode.
• Produced, with help, the noon show.
• Wrote and edited own stories.
• Did some light reporting.

Networking gained at KBTX

• Was able to try for a full time position if
  wanted.
• Gained contacts at KBTX that have now moved on to
  other stations.
• Met several influential people throughout
  community.

Work Experience in a professional setting

• People at KBTX were very multitasked.
• Everyone worked well in and out of a group
  setting.
• Everyone was willing to pick up new task.
• Being on time to daily meetings was essential.

Expansion of my horizons and possibilities gained
during Internship

• Gained a better understanding of how media works.
• Became aware of what is newsworthy and what is
  not.
• Became aware of jobs within media that I was not
  aware of before (like producer and editor).

Application of Classroom learning to real world
experience

• English, English, and more English. Must be able
  to apply English rules to everything you write.
• Had to use some ethic rules learned throughout
  college.
• Some basic understanding of people was needed to
  present stories well.

Conclusion

• Interning at KBTX was a great experience for me.
• I learned tons about Media and what it is really
  like to be in front and behind the camera.
• All the work that goes into a thirty minute news
  broadcast is amazing!
