The first voyage

• Columbus brought three ships on his first voyage.
  The Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria. They set sail
  on August 3, 1492. They spotted land on October
  11, 1492. They thought they were in the West
  Indies but, they were in the American Islands. So
  he called the people there Indians.

The Second Voyage

• On the second voyage, he sailed with seventeen
  ships and 1,200 to 1,500 men to find gold and
  capture Indians as slaves in the Indies. Then he
  set foot on a base in Hispaniola. Then he sailed
  and on November 3, 1493 he spotted and named the
  island of Dominica.

The Third Voyage

• On the third voyage Columbus sailed farther
  south. He went to Trinidad and Venezuela.
  Columbus was the first European since the Viking
  Leif Ericsson to set foot on the mainland of
  America.

The Forth Voyage

• On his forth and last trip,Columbus sailed to
  Mexico, Honduras, and Panama and Santiago.
  Columbus was soon buried in eastern Hispaniola.

• He is the great explorer. Without him we would
  not have Columbus day. Without him we would have
  first peoples but they would not be called
  Indians.
