2WAR
3ANGELIC CONFLICT
- most human wars are a part of the Angelic
Conflictthe spiritual warfare going on between
God and Satan - (modern examples are World War II, the Cold War
with Communism, the ongoing conflict in the
Middle East, the Gulf War, and Islamic terrorism)
4 the raid on Jobs livestock and servants by the
Sabeans (later Sheba in modern Yemen) and
Chaldeans (later Babylonia) was part of the
Angelic Conflict(Job 1617)
5 angelic forces protected Elisha and the city
of Dothan from the Syrian Army (2 Kings 6823)

7 the last war is between earthly and heavenly
armies (Rev 161316 191121)
8 war often seeks to impose a tyrannical
government on people to suppress freedom of
religionevangelism, Bible teaching, spiritual
growth, worship, and missions(a good example is
the Armageddon Campaign)
9 evil governments controlled by Satan bring
bondage, oppression, and tyrannygodly
governments bring liberty and freedom(2
Corinthians 317)
10 war was directed primarily against human
enemies in the Old Testamentconversely, war is
directed primarily against demons and the people
they control in the New Testamenta logical
result of positional truth (2 Corinthians 1035
Ephesians 61017)

14 God is the "LORD of Hosts"the commander of the
armies of heaven(1 Kings 2219 Luke 213) and
earth (1 Samuel 1745 Isaiah 134)
15 in spiritual warfare we must pray that God will
remove the demons protecting evil leaders such as
Adolf Hitler,Saddam Hussein, andOsama bin Laden
16 we must fight to win battles against evil
now,but we won't win the war against evil until
Christ returns

18INDIVIDUAL AND NATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- commands to individuals are not all applicable
by the state and commands to the state are not
all applicable by individuals
19 God has given powers to the state that he has
not given to individuals for example,
- (1)
- individuals are not allowed to avenge themselves
- the state must avenge acts of crime against its
people (Romans 1334), and
20(2)individuals are commanded to love their
enemies (Matthew 544)states are never
commandedto love other nations
21 the state has a unique set of rules to guide
its behavior
22PACIFISM
- the Sermon on the Mount discusses personal
ethics, not national or international ethics
23 applying the personal ethics of the Sermon on
the Mount to the state results in pacifismthe
belief that war is always wrong and it is never
right to participate in war (be it defensive,
preemptive, or aggressive war)a view held by
Anabaptists, Mennonites, and Quakers
24 verses used to support pacifism
- (1)
- Blessed are the meek (praus) (Matthew 55),
- but meekness is not weakness
- Moses was very meek (praus), more than any other
man on the face of the earth (Numbers 123 LXX),
yet he engaged in warfare
25(2)Blessed are the peacemakers (Matthew
59),yet Caesar was called the Peacemaker
because he won and maintained peaceby using
military force
26(3)Do not resist him who is evil (Matthew
539)prohibits retaliation for personal
insults, not self-defense (Luke 2236) or foreign
attack (1 Samuel 2315)
27(4)love your enemies(Matthew 544)refers
to personal,not national enemies
28(5)"Thou shalt not kill"(Exodus
2013)prohibits murder, not killing in
self-defense (Exodus 222),capital punishment
(Genesis 96 Exodus 2112 Matthew 214041
Romans 134),or killing in war (Psalm 1441)
29 pacifism is at best morally naïve and at worst
morally delinquentin failing to defend good,
pacifists aid evil
30 pacifists refuse service in the armed forces
while enjoying all the benefits of armed
protection
31PRINCIPLES TO REMEMBER
- war is not incompatible with love, justice,
righteousness or truth (Revelation 1911)
32 it is not always possible to live in peace with
everyonepersonally or nationally (Romans 1218)
