About Ritham

• RITHAM special school for mentally retarded
  children is established in 2004 in Rajapalayam (a
  small town in backward Virudhunagar District),
  Tamil Nadu to serve the students in the town and
  its nearby villages.
• Ritham School is registered with the Tamil Nadu
  government, Reg.no 4499/ss-111/2006.
• Ritham has 44 special students and 6 trained
  teachers.

Our motive

• Our motive is to give FREE education and FREE
  transportation to the Mental Retardation (MR),
  Cerebral Palsy (CP) and multiple disability
  children.
• It is our duty to teach them how to improve
  their daily living skills, such as getting
  dressed, using the bathroom, and eating on their
  own communication skills, such as understanding
  what is said and being able to answer social
  skills with peers, family members, adults, and
  others. And where possible educate them for an
  Independent, productive life.

Survey

• According to a recent survey there are 274
  special children living in and around
  Rajapalayam. Many of them have Cerebral Palsy
  (CP), Mental Retardation (MR) and multiple
  disabilities. Many of these children have never
  been to a school and are usually left alone in
  the house without any day-care.
• This survey made us to think the expansion of
  Ritham school to accommodate and educate these
  kids.

Students their Problems

• 1.Transport
• Families of the children live in areas (mostly
  villages) away from Ritham School. The public
  transport that reaches these areas is not always
  geared to their needs. Someone has to take them
  to the stop which is not close by and see that
  they board the bus. And be there when they
  return. For working parents this is not an
  option. And it is also hard to take these kids in
  the public transport system.
• Very often, the parents cannot take a day off to
  reach the kids to school and pick them up when it
  gets over, Which is probably why kids who are
  even mildly retarded never see school.
• 2.Financial status
• The parents of these children are daily
  wage-earners earning between Rs.35 and 70.
  Economically it is not possible for them to send
  their kids to a special school.
• Many of these children have never been to a
  school and are usually left alone in the house
  without any day-care.

What we planed to do

• We have decided to provide FREE transport and
  FREE education for these under-privileged
  children and the existing children who are
  already in the rolls.
• Future plans.
• Free medicine to the children (most of the
  kids taking anti-epileptic drugs)
• Vocation training and placement.
• Free Residential school for CP and MR
  students.
• New spacious building for the school.

How we are running the school

• School fees
• Presently we are letting parents to decide the
  fees between Rs.150-450 according to their
  financial status.
• Own money
• The founder of the school Mr.Venkataramanan
  (physiotherapist) is infusing his hard earned
  money to run the school.
• The existing financial position of the school is
  not sufficient to achieve our motive of FREE
  edcuation and FREE transporation. To fulfill our
  motive we are looking kind hearted
  philanthropists to come forward and assist us
  financially to serve these children.

• We have a small group of friends and
  philanthropists who are committed to support us
  through-out.

• Rs.500/Quarter
• Any amount/year
• Any onetime payment
• The new schemes are
• To give Free medicine for 15 students 4500/month.
• To give Free transport for 8 students 4500/month.
