2Introduction
- California is at the bottom of all states when
comparing number of students per computer in
schools, 6 students for every 1 computer. - There are many benefits when families have
computers at home. - Dr. Robert Fairlie, UCSanta Cruz, is researching
Race, Youth and the Digital Divide using a
250,00 grant and the latest census information. - He has reanalyzed the 50,000 home interviews and
has discovered some major findings. - 85 of students with home computers use them for
homework.

7The History of Computers for Classrooms
- Started in 1991 as a committee of Chico Unified
School District. Became a 501(c)(3) non-profit
in 2001. - CFC wipes all hard drives to U.S Dept. of Defense
standards a three pass wipe. - CFC is a Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher (MAR)
and can load licensed Windows98SE or Windows 2000
Pro on donated computers. - We have furnished computers to classrooms in 33
counties throughout California. - Since 2002 we have been furnishing computer
systems to schools, nonprofits, libraries as well
as low-income student families. - All donations are tested and reused whenever
possible. Nothing goes to landfill. -

- CD drive sound card
- 10/100 NIC new 56K. hardware modem
- 6 GB hard drive
- 17 digital monitor
- Windows 2000 Pro licensed with current updates
installed. - OpenOffice 1.1.4 (defaults set to Word, Excel and
PowerPoint with Adobe Acrobat Exporter - SpyBot,Ad-Adware and a free anti-virus program
- Optional new speakers, Internet setup or HP Ink
Jet Printer Model 3740 including USB cable and
color ink - 1 year warranty repair or replace for free
