Understanding Carnegie Units
  • Why do I have to earn units to graduate?
  • A The state requires certain units to earn a
    high school diploma. The graduation requirements
    for the class of 2012 and beyond have changed
    from the previous graduation classes.
  • What is a Carnegie Unit?
  • A Unit that represents credit earned from
    courses in high school based upon standards
    learned and seat time spent in the classroom.

  • Math I first semester and Math II second semester
    of the 9th grade year.
  • Math II first semester and Math III second
    semester of the 10th grade year.
  • The second model is recommended by the BHS Math
    department to allow for maturity and adjustment
    to high school.
  • Math I with Support
  • Math taken all year long in a 90 minute block.
    Students will receive 1 unit of Math I and 1 unit
    of Math Support at the end of the school year.
  • This will allow extra time for students to
    comprehend and practice performance standards.

What to Expect from Advisement
  • An advisor will call a parent to set up a meeting
    with both the student and the parent.
  • A list of recommended academic classes will be
    presented based upon previous CRCT and ITBS
    scores, benchmark testing, and teacher and
    administrator recommendations.
  • You will select academic classes and electives.
  • You will select 4 alternate electives if a
    desired elective does not fit into your childs
    schedule.
