• People are unequal, based on their degree of
  ritual purity. There are four major varnas
• Brahmans (priests)
• Kshatriyas (warriors)
• Vaishyas (merchants, craftsmen)
• Shudras (menial workers)
• AND
• Outcastes, untouchables, harijans, dalits

The path of duty in Hinduism

• This is called dharma
• If you follow this path of duty, you will be
  reincarnated in your next life at a higher level.
  This is your karma.
• To follow this, you must avoid pollution
• Contact with lower caste (jati) persons
• Touch, marriage, eating with them
• This is a powerful means of thought control
