  • The 6666 Ranch is one of the most well- known cow
    and horse operations in the Texas Panhandle.
  • The ranch also covers parts of many other states.

People of the 6666
  • The ranch has had many influences in its years as
    a successful ranching operation.
  • Founder of the ranch Samuel Burk Burnett

  • Born January 1, 1849
  • At the age of 19, he purchased cattle wearing the
    6666 Brand which became the namesake and brand
    of his ranch.

Burnett and Quanah Parker
  • After Texas suffered a major drought, Burnett
    made a deal with Quanah Parker to lease Indian
    land to graze his horses and cattle on. This
    deal lead to a strong bond between the 6666 Ranch
    and the Comanche Indians.

Burnett and President Theodore Roosevelt
  • At the end of the drought in Texas, the President
    ordered the cowboys off of Indian land. Needing
    more time to graze and to find new land in Texas,
    Burnett went to Washington to persuade President
    Roosevelt to extend the time to 2 years.
  • This meeting made them close friends for years to
    come.

  • Burk Burnetts life ended on June 27, 1922. Burk
    left behind one son, Tom Burnett, to run his
    ranch.

    Ranch. Times of drought and poor cattle prices
    have come and gone. However, the people and
    horses of the ranch have kept the legacy alive.

    American Quarter Horse Associations Best Remuda
    Award. This award was given in recognition of the
    outstanding working Quarter Horses responsible
    for the 6666 thousands of cattle.
