4SFU Safety Policy
- The safety of all members of the university
community as well as visitors to campus is a
major concern of the university. It is therefore,
the policy of the university to - Protect the safety of all faculty, staff,
students visitors (contractors sub
contractors) against unsafe conditions and
occupational hazards - Formulate and carry out continuing effective
safety programs appropriate to university
operations - Give priority to a safe work environment in the
planning, direction and implementation of
university activities and - Comply with relevant statutes, regulations and
standards of regulatory authorities representing
occupational health and safety.

- Security is the first contact for emergencies

- Security will meet and organize emergency
response personnel as they arrive.
6 WHEN REPORTING AN EMERGENCY YOU MUST
SPEAK IN A CLEAR TONE AND FOLLOW THESE
STEPS
7IDENTIFY YOURSELF THE LOCATION OF THE EMEREGENCY
IDENTIFY THE TYPE OF EMERGENCY
INDICATE THE SEVERITY AND WHAT OR WHO WAS INVOLVED
PROVIDE THE BEST MEANS OF COMMUNICATION FOR YOUR
SITUATION
8- As a University Employee you must
- Correct or Report Unsafe Conditions Immediately
- Report All near misses
- Plan all work to meet Environmental Health and
Safety Requirements - Do not use equipment that you are not trained on
- Know and follow University Protocols

- Investigations are for fact finding
- Not fault finding
- Note Violation of safety regulations are
unacceptable - SFU wants the work done safely
27REPORTING
ALL INJURIES MUST BE REPORTED IMMEDIATELY
RECORD EVERYTHING IN THE FIRST AID RECORD BOOK
28- MINOR INJURIES
- That can be dealt with use the Shop First Aid Kit
and document - There is a First Aid Room in the Maggie Benston
Centre - Please be sure for minor injuries not to generate
a form 7 by informing the Centres treating
staff. - Document all injuries in the first aid book
29MAJOR INJURIES
- Contact Security 778 782 4500 (24500) or Radio
dispatch - Security has level 2 first aid on staff 24/7
- Security will document the first aid incident
30INJURY REPORTING FORMS
Form 7- filled out by the employees supervisor
and forwarded to human resources within 48
hours Form 7A- filled out by the First Aid
Attendant and forwarded to the employees
supervisor within 24 hours Form 6- sent to the
injured employees home by the WCB, must be
filled out and returned to the WCB
31It is critical to address any Safety Concerns
with your direct Supervisor
Immediately if Required
32If Safety Issues in your area remain unadressed
by your Supervisor
You may elevate them to the Safety Committee
