CAREER SATISFACTIONWhy It Matters!
  • Life Expectancy has steadily increased.
  • Persons reaching age 65 have an average life
    expectancy of an additional 18.7 years (20 years
    for women and 17.1 for males)
  • Americans have not been saving more for their own
    for retirement.
  • In one study of working-age households, 44 were
    estimated to not being able to maintain their
    standard of living in retirement.

Were Working Longer
  • Increased age limits to be eligible for social
    security benefits.
  • Full retirement age (also called "normal
    retirement age") had been 65 for many years.
    However, beginning with people born in 1938 or
    later, that age gradually increases until it
    reaches 67 for people born after 1959.
  • Decline in traditional pensions.
  • According to U.S. Department Labor Statistics,
    60 of private workers had a defined benefit,
    compared to 11 in 2004.
  • Modest 401(k) balances.
  • In 2004, 49 of all workers were eligible for
    participation in a 401K plan. Of those eligible,
    79 were participating.
