  • On November 11, 1889 the President issued a
    proclamation declaring Washington's Constitution
    approved. The State of Washington was admitted to
    the Union

State Flag Its Symbolism
  • Passed in 1923, Washington state law describes
    the flag as having dark green bunting with a
    state seal in the center. It is the only state
    flag that is green. It is also the only state
    flag with a picture of a president.

Geographical Features
  • In summer western Washington State has a very
    high rainfall. East of the Cascades rainfall is
    very much lower. Summer temperatures vary
    according to the amount of cloud cover, those
    regions with the highest rainfall normally having
    the lowest temperatures. near the east coast.

Historical Sites
  • It was originally constructed in 1927, where it
    carried the North Central Highway over the
    Columbia River in Vantage, replacing a four-car
    ferry. Originally planned to be a privately
    constructed toll bridge, it was strongly opposed
    by Washington Governor Louis F. Hart because it
    would be a toll bridge on a taxpayer-supported
    highway.
