Just the Facts
  • The McDuffie Environmental Education Center
    (MEEC) was started seven years ago as a joint
    partnership between
  • Department of Natural Resources - owns the site
    and has made all the site improvements and
    supports a teachers salary.
  • McDuffie County Schools supports a teachers
    salary.
  • The Educational Technology Training Center at the
    National Science Center provides computers,
    equipment, teacher time, web hosting, and serves
    ass the fiscal agent for contracts and grants.
  • Central Savannah River Area RCD Council -
    assists with locating grants and serves as a
    vehicle for community participation.
  • CSRA RESA provides consulting services in
    lesson development.

  • A certified teacher works ¼ time at the MEEC
    providing outdoor experiences and activities for
    21,200 students and teachers over the past four
    years.
  • The curriculum uses science and technology for
    student activities and teacher training.

Plans
  • Acquire funding for the on site teacher full
    time.
  • Use DNR interns for helpers
  • Add another full time teacher to be able to bring
    in 10,000 students a year, vs 5,000 today.
  • Need Committed funding of 150,000 a year for
    two teachers and benefits.
  • Three partners will provide the balance of costs
    through grants, donations, and small school
    system charge per student.
  • Build a new classroom and exhibit center.
