LRC Mission Statement
  • The Learning Resources Center consists
  • of three departments (Library, Guided
  • Studies Center, and Media Center)
  • dedicated to providing a diverse
  • population with instructional support
  • through quality resources and services
  • that carry out the college mission and
  • goals. This population includes students
  • (both curriculum and continuing
  • education), faculty and staff, and
  • general public. LRC services are
  • available on campus, at off-campus
  • sites, and through distance learning.

  • research and a variety of print and
  • electronic resources. Library and study
  • resources are available on campus

Student Conduct
  • The library is intended as a quiet area for
    reading, studying and research, not a place for
    social gathering.
  • Smoking, eating and drinking are not permitted in
    the library.
  • Please turn off cell phones, beepers, and
    headphones.
  • No library materials should ever be taken from
    the library without first being properly checked
    out.

Student Contact (continue)
  • Any patron found guilty of theft or mutilation of
    materials will be charged for damages or
    replacement of the materials and lose library
    privileges. REMINDER ALL MATERIALS ARE STATE
    PROPERTY.
  • Each student using the electronic databases for
    school-related activities, must sign in at the
    circulation desk.

Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)
There are two (2) online public access terminals
downstairs in the library and one (1) upstairs
across from the elevator. These
computer terminals are used to access our
books. Remote site users may access the OPAC via
www.richmondcc.edu

Circulation Desk (Check-out Desk)
  • Located on the 1st floor.
  • A current RCC ID for students or valid North
    Carolina drivers license for community users is
    required to check out library materials.
  • Books are checked out for a two week period.
    Reference books, reserve books, magazines, and
    newspapers are not checked out.

Circulation Desk (continue)
  • Library materials may be renewed a maximum of
    three times unless they have been requested by
    someone else. Borrowers may come to the library
    or telephone up to the day the materials are due.
    After the due date, the materials must be
    returned to the library and the fines paid before
    they are renewed.
  • Fines for each overdue item is 5 per day,
    computed only for those days the library is open.
    A replacement fee, plus cost, for lost books must
    be paid for by the person in whose name the book
    was checked out.

Circulation Desk (continue)
  • All library obligations, e.g., overdue materials,
    unpaid fines, lost books, must be cleared before
    the end of semester OR, students will not be
    allowed to obtain grades or transcripts, register
    for the next semester, graduate and will be
    denied library privileges.

Periodical Collection
  • Magazines and Journals
  • Paper Format 160 magazines arranged
    alphabetically on shelves with latest edition on
    shelf and back issues (2 to 3 years) are stored
    in magazine storage area

  • Articles from magazines not available at RCC
    Library can be requested through InterLibrary
    Loan. Usually 10 per page copied is charged
    sometimes a handling fee too.
  • Readers Guide To Periodical Literature Indexat
    www.hwwilsonweb.com provides access to articles
    in magazines.

  • Newspapers
  • RCC Library subscribes to 10 newspapers 5 local,
    3 state, and 2 national. Back issues are kept for
    1-2 months in a storage area.

  • NC Live
  • NC Live is the states electronic library,
    created to give you access to magazine articles,
    national and local newspapers, business and
    professional journals, reference sources, and
    research material all electronically.
  • NC Live is brought to you through a partnership
    of public, academic, and community college
    libraries and is funded by the North Carolina
    General Assembly and the states independent
    colleges and universities.
  • NC Live is available to anyone who uses an NC
    Live Library.
  • NC Live can be accessed from home by obtaining a
    password from staff.
