3The Ordinance Index
- Lists the dates and temples for ordinances
performed in behalf of deceased persons. - Baptisms
- Endowments
- Sealings to Parents
- Sealings to Spouses
4Why search both the OI and the Online OI?
- The Ordinance Index on CDs in Family History
Centers has not been updated since March 2000. - The Online Ordinance Index is updated weekly by
temples. It can only be accessed by LDS members.
53-Step Process to TempleReady with Personal
Ancestral File
- 1. Run Update My Records in TempleReady for
Windows. - 2.Manually check the Online
- Ordinance Index.
- 3.Run Submit Family Names for
- Temple Ordinances in TempleReady for Windows.
6Step 1 Update My Records
- This step checks the names you select from your
PAF database with completed ordinance data in the
Ordinance Index. If there are matches, it
automatically inserts and updates the ordinance
data in your PAF database. Then you import the
updated data into your PAF at home.
7How To Update My Records
- Take a backup of your PAF data restore the file
on a TempleReady for Windows computer at the
Family History Center. - Open TempleReady for Windows select Update My
Records open your PAF file. - Select the names to check with ?in boxes.
- Decide if a match is the same person in your
file. - Make a backup of your updated PAF file restore
on PAF at home.
8Step 2 Check the Online OI
- This step enables you to update your records with
the latest completed ordinances and minimize
duplication. It includes all of the OI data from
the Family History Center plus up-to-date
ordinance data submitted by temples. The Online
Ordinance Index is searched manually for each
individual.
9How To Access the Online OI
- Enter www.familysearch.org
- Click Sign On to start.
- If registered, enter username and password.
- Check I am a member Sign On
- If not registered, check I am a member click
on If you are a new user - Follow directions by adding your LDS membership
number confirmation date (from ward clerk). - Return to home and click on Search.
10How To Search the Online OI
- Search by hand for each individual. Check name
variations. - Scroll through all search results.
- For multiple listings, the record with the temple
code is the primary ordinance. - Copy, print or download completed ordinance data.
- Add this updated ordinance data to your records.
11Before the Next Step, Dont Forget
- To check with other family members who may be
requesting this work on the same ancestors. - To contact the temple if you find completed
ordinances on an individual who has a printed
temple card, so they can delete or change it in - their database.
12Step 3 Submit Names to the Temple
- There are two steps to submit names to the temple
after checking for completed ordinances - First, you need to prepare a PAF disk with the
names you select and bring it to the - Family History Center. (PAF Class)
- Second, you need to prepare a TempleReady disk at
the Family History Center with the names you are
submitting. - If you dont have a computer, you can do both at
the Family History Center.
13How To Prepare a TempleReady Disk from PAF
- Take a backup of your PAF files to the Family
History Center. Select the number of names you
can complete in a couple months. - Take at least one blank, formatted disk or take
two if you want a backup or working copy. - Restore the file in PAF open TR for Windows.
- Select Submit Family Names for Temple
Ordinances. - Follow the instructions on the screen to select
names to submit and check and correct records.
14How To Prepare a TempleReady Disk from PAF
- Decide if a possible match is the same person.
- Designate proxies (you or the temple).
- Print copy of temple submission report.
- Save submission. Add blank disk to A drive.
- Obtain Temple Submission label from Family
History Center. - Make backup or working copy of disk.
- Take or mail the disk to the temple.
