When Jesus Christ is ultimately supreme in our
lives, we will share with him the same concern
for the spiritual well-being of others as he
demonstrated by coming to the world to give up
his life for us.

PRAYER THAT LOOKS BEYOND OURSELVES
Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful
in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray
also for us, that God may open to us a door for
the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on
account of which I am in prison  that I may make
it clear, which is how I ought to speak

Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best
use of the time.  Let your speech always be
gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may
know how you ought to answer each person

we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that
you may be filled with the knowledge of his will
in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as
to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully
pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work
and increasing in the knowledge of God

as if the apostle were saying, behave wisely
toward outsiders, always bearing in mind that
though few men read the sacred scrolls, all men
