Define Podcast

• Podcast is a combination of technologies
• digital recording - creation of digital
• multimedia files
• broadcast - concept of info to masses
• (with a targeted audience return to)
• website - posting files
• push technology

Podcast vs. Webcast

• Webcast/groupware (live) real-time remote
  collaboration.
• Podcasting distribution of (prerecorded)
  multimedia content.
• While they use similar technology, they address
  different needs.

Why do you need a Website or Weblog?

• Website
• a contact location
• simply a place to hold the multimedia content.
• collect emails addresses for your listserver
• place to hold additional content-like text, pdf,
  Power Point, web links, and other information
  associated with the podcast

• built-in Bulletin board for feedback from your
  viewers.
• built-in option of chronologically adding/listing
  content, automatically keeps an archived log of
  information. Ideal for journals, news, or
  distribution of time relevant information.
• a mechanism of alerting your subscribed audience
  when there are updates and new information.

The Term Podcasting

• A definition of podcasting includes the posting
  of multimedia content, but is incomplete without
  including a mechanism for automatic distribution
  of media to your subscribed audience.
• So assuming the creation of multimedia content,
  how is the content distributed? Like a magazine,
  what is needed is a way to syndicate your
  content.
• If you know HTML, and XML there is a Really
  Simple way to Syndicate your content. By
  providing a link on your website that will allow
  users to 'subscribe' to your content. This is
  called an RSS feed.

• A way to digitally encode multimedia content.
• A way to distribute that content to a targeted
  interested audience.
• A way for your audience to carry and share your
  content.
• An online environment to receive feedback, and
  information from that interested audience.
