Cumulus

• Cumulus means heaped.
• They are puffy white clouds that drift across the
  sky on a bright summer day.
• When they are small and scattered, they are a
  sign of fine weather.

Cumulonimbus

• These clouds resemble cumulus clouds, but are
  much higher.
• Rain falls from these clouds, lightning is
  produced, and causes the rumble of thunder.

Altocumulus

• These small, white, puffy clouds sometimes drift
  across the sky looking like dozens of small,
  loose cottonballs.

Cirrus

• When you see cirrus clouds you can be sure that
  the air is very dry.
• Sailors once used cirrus clouds as a wind warning.

Cirrocumulus

• A layer of cloud consisting of tiny individual
  cloudlets at a high level is called cirrocumulus.
• They may make a rippled pattern or sometimes look
  like scales on a fish- a sign that unsettled
  weather is on its way.

Cirrostratus

• This cloud is so thin it is almost transparent.
• It often signals changing weather.
