WELCOME BACK!!!!
  • Who did something FABULOUS this summer?
  • Who traveled the longest distance this summer?
  • Who did the most unique activity this summer?

3
Welcome (cont)
  • What book(s) did you read?
  • Who took up a new hobby this summer? Or continued
    an existing one?
  • Who could not WAIT for school to start??

4
2007-2008 changes in Staff Development
Requirements
  • Scavenger Hunt
  • Minimally, how many waiver hours are required
    this year?
  • Who has input into these hours and how?
  • How do conferences and college hours count?
  • What are the dates of the waiver days?

5
Scavenger Hunt (cont)
  • How many hours of Targeted Instruction are
    required?
  • What IS Targeted Instruction?
  • WHO determines my Targeted Instruction?

6
Scavenger Hunt (cont)
  • What are content hours?
  • What process replaced the old BLUE forms for out
    of district sessions/courses?

7
NEW out of district credit process
  • Get Pre-Approval form filled out and signed by
principal and Appropriate Central Office person
(for example, for a Language Arts session out of
district, the principal must sign, and either
    Nancy Wooten-elementary or Kathy McGinn-secondary
would also sign. ALL special education sessions
are approved only through Chuck Schreiber)
  • Have the Pre-Approval completed and submitted at
LEAST 2 weeks prior to the date of the session or
course you would like to attend for credit.

8
NEW out of district credit process (Cont)
  • You will receive notification in writing if the
    request was approved or denied.
  • Attach your documentation to the original written
notification of approval (if approved) and send
back to the approving central office department.
BE SURE you get appropriate approval (for
example the person approving has the authority
to grant your request) or the request can still
    be denied.

9
NEW out of district credit process (Cont)
  • This will be sent for input as a transfer credit.
  • Forms samples are in your packet and available on
    the Staff Development Website.
  • If you have questions as to who to send it to,
send to Staff Development to send to the
    appropriate department/person. You can always
call Staff Development for assistance with the
    new process.

10
Purse/Wallet Hunt
  • Does everyone have a dollar in their wallets they
can look at? Get it out and examine it closely.
If you have a larger bill, that works even
    better.

11
Purse/Wallet Hunt (cont)
  • Now, after you examine your bill closely, pass it
to the front. Ill give it back if you can
    correctly identify it.
  • Just Kidding!!!!! (or am I???)

12
  • Sound unfair? Why? Do all dollar bills look the
    same?
  • Explain how with regard to students, one size
    fits all does not fit
  • How does this relate to Targeted Instruction
    training?

13
Now, really, the Purse/Wallet hunt begins
  • At your table, find ONE item that starts with
    EACH of the following letters
  • F-O-C-U-S

14
The first group to get an item for ALL letters
may take their break!
15
  • Need a break? Last one to the vending machines is
    a rotten egg!!!!

16
F-O-C-U-S
  • This year, the CI Staff Development FOCUS is
    maximizing student achievement.
  • This means, of course, training, training, and
more training! As weve mentioned, one size does
not fit all students. Teaching to diverse
learners is becoming increasingly more difficult.
  • What training do we need? Lets look!

17
CORE TRAINING
  • Look in the packet and find your grade level
    and/or content area
  • What is required that you take (minimally) for
    your area/grade level?
  • Have you already taken some of these?
  • If so, do you have to take them again? (no, not
if you are successfully using the
    strategies/concepts and do not need a brush-up)
  • Can you take other things than ONLY what is
listed? YESbut remember, ALWAYS confer with your
    campus administration!

18
DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS
  • Find your appropriate section of District
    Expectations
  • This is ONLY for you, Highlight those things you
    do routinely.
  • Put a STAR by those you could do more of
  • Put a big SMILEY FACE by those you wish you knew
more about or do not do regularly/at all (if a
training is not offered and you need one, let
    Staff Development know).
  • Anything NOT there that SHOULD be? Discuss with
    your department head/team leader/grade level
    leader.

19
DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS (cont)
  • Anything with a smiley face or a star should be
of primary importance when discussing your staff
development plan for this year with your campus
    administrator.

20
2007-2008
  • Have questions or still confused?
  • Visit the staff Development Website
  • Consult with your department head/team
    leader/grade level leader
  • Consult with your campus administration
  • Call the Staff Development Department
  • Call your content facilitator
  • Take a deep breath and be glad you have so many
    to turn to for assistance!

21
  • HAVE A SUPER YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!
