anti-venom for snake bites. - Around my neck is a python.

different kinds.
10 Monkeys
- Monkeys live around many temples.
- They sometimes try to grab things from people
like hats and glasses so you have to be careful.
11ElephantsIn northern Thailand, we visited an
elephant sanctuary.
12- I got to feed, bathe and ride the elephants.
Elephants like to eat lots of bananas and corn
(but you have to husk the corn first).
13Buddhism
- Buddhism is a religion.
- It started a long time ago with the birth of
Buddha. In Thailand the year is 2548. - Most Thai and Burmese people are Buddhist.
- There are many temples and pagodas.
- Buddhists try not to kill anything, even ants or
mosquitos.
14Making Merit with a Monk
- In Chiang Mai I made merit. That means I did
something good like giving food to a monk. A monk
is a religious person like a minister or priest.
Women cant touch monks. Monks live in
monasteries. I saw a monastery once.
15Monks
- Young monks are called novice monks. Boys can be
novice monks when they are 6 or 7 until they are
20 years old. They live at the monastery and are
taught by older monks. - They help clean the monastery and go with older
monks to collect food every morning.
16- In Thailand, monks wear orange robes.
- In Myanmar, monks wear red robes.
- Can you guess which country I am in?
- All monks, even novice monks, have to shave their
heads.
17Temples and Pagodas
People like to pray to Buddha. They light candles
and leave food and money so that Buddha will help
them.
18- Here I am pouring water over the head of a god
that helps people born on Fridays (like me!).
Each day has a different god and a different
animal. Mine is a guinea pig.
19Spirit Houses
Spirit houses are everywhere in Thailand and
Myanmar. People believe that spirits live in the
ground, trees, and air. When a person builds a
house, they also build a little house for the
spirits to live in to keep them happy. They
decorate it with flowers and add small dolls to
keep them company.
20People
- People dress differently in Thailand and Myanmar.
21- The woman above is selling toy grasshoppers made
of leaves. - The woman and baby at the right are members of a
hill tribe in northern Thailand.
22- This man lives near Mandalay in Myanmar. He is
selling pinwheels from the back of his bicycle.
Most men in Myanmar wear longghyis which is
material wrapped around like a skirt.
23Trying New Foods and Drinks
- I tried lots of different food and drinks
- coconut milk
- mangosteen

24Buying lots of fruit at the floating market
- Trying some raw sugarcane.
- (I think the elephant liked it more)
25Here I am helping the ox grind the palm nuts to
make palm sugar candy.
26Schools
There are many different kinds of schools. Some
are like ours, others are poor. In Bangkok,
students learn about Buddhism and how to meditate.
27Squat Toilets
