  inventor, whose development of a practical

  sound-recording device, and motion picture
  projector had profound effects on the shaping of
  modern society.

• Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11, 1847,
  in Milan, Ohio. As a child, he lived in Milan and
  Port Huron, Michigan. He only received three
  months of formal schooling, but he became one of
  the greatest inventors of all of history.
