Madera County Museum
  • Located at
  • 210 W Yosemite Ave
  • Madera, CA 93637
  • Construction began in 1900 and took almost three
    years to finish.
  • Outside of the building is made of granite from
    the Raymond-Knowles Quarry in Madera County.
  • Madera Countys first courthouse.

Objective
  • Help 4-H members meet Washington and California
    Focus Pre-Application Criteria for Madera County.
  • Increase knowledge of Madera County history.
  • Increase awareness of the Madera County
    Historical Museum.
  • Encourage 4-H members and family to become much
    needed docents for the Museum.

Madera Countys Citizenship Focus Trip
Pre-Application Criteria
  • Complete a minimum of three activities for
    California Focus, a minimum of 5 activities for
    Washington Focus (each from a different section).
    Any Other item must be approved by the 4-H
    Office.

Family History
  • Do a family tree going back at least three
    generations
  • Research when one branch of your family came to
    the USA. Include family members name, place of
    birth, age, port of exit from their country and
    entry into USA, mode of transportation and length
    of time for their trip.
  • Research why the above family member left their
    country, what conditions were in their country
    when they left and what they found in the USA
    after arrival.

  • Complete 4-H Office quiz on where to go for what
    in Madera County.
  • Complete 4-H Office quiz on whos who in Madera
    County Government attend a Board of
    Supervisors meeting.
  • Complete 4-H Office quiz on whos who in City
    Governement attend City Council meeting.
  • Obtain Madera County Budget break down income.
  • Learn whos who on your local school board how
    they are selected, pay scale, duties attend a
    board meeting.
  • Study our local legal system visit a court
    trial or Juvenile Hall.

  • Research year Madera was incorporated, how it was
    named, two original pioneers who settled here,
    Madera County population then and now, break down
    figures ethnically visit the Madera Museum.
  • Research the Sugar Pine Lumber Mill and Flu
    history visit the Sugar Pine and take the Sugar
    Pine Train Ride.
  • Research Friant Dam history and statistics on
    water how much the dam holds, delivers and
    where the water goes. Tour Friant Dam.
  • Research location and what tribes, how many
    Indians first populated Madera County. Determine
    the current status of those tribes. Visit the
    Mono Indian Museum in North Fork.
  • Research when, where and by whom gold was first
    discovered in Madera County go gold panning.

  • Plan and conduct a Citizenship Bowl at a club
    meeting with 10 or more members.

The 4-H Program
  • Read The 4-H Story (available at the 4-H
    Office) write a report on it.
  • Make an appointment with the 4-H Youth
    Development Advisor cover how 4-H is connected
    to USDA, the UCCE and Madera County. Learn what
    services the UCCE office provides.
  • Research the Madera County 4-H Program to learn
    how many members and leaders there are. Identify
    the clubs, ethnic in each club, the areas they
    serve and the total number of members enrolled in
    each project.
  • Ask your club leader for a copy of Outreach
    Documentation and complete one approved item for
    your club.

    1030 a.m. and 1200 p.m.
