  • Classification rules level 3 counts contributes
    either half or two-thirds towards your final
    degree!
  • 11 or 1 2 models
  • Must pass 100 level 3 credits to graduate
  • Watch out for pass to graduate modules in
    other disciplines Geog has none
  • Classification thresholds 1st 68.5 average
    2i 59 average 2ii 49.5 average 3rd 40
    average lt40 fail
  • All marks count in average, even fail marks
  • Special cases see Joint Honours to explain any
    mitigating circumstances
  • Extensions and penalties extensions in
    Geography authorised by Diane Collett work late
    without an extension - University penalties apply
    (subtract 5 per working day late)
  • Avoid plagiarism very serious consequences
  • Keep your receipts for work handed in.

  • Rights at level 3
  • The right to feedback make sure you pay
    attention to it!
  • The right to resit - one opportunity only with
    40 cap, normally the next time the module is
    offered
  • Not happy with marks? no School policy of
    remarking for coursework or exams. Meet with
    marker to get more comprehensive feedback. Still
    not happy? Appeals process LUU Advice Centre
    will explain the process.
  • Not happy with degree result? Formal appeals
    process must be undertaken within 6 weeks days
    of learning degree classification. Cannot
    graduate until appeal procedure is finalised.
    Must have reasonable grounds for appeal. Not to
    be undertaken lightly.

  • No dissertation? Are you doing any independent
  • research?
  • To consider GEOG3520 GEOG3820 other
    research-oriented modules in Geography or your
    other subject
  • Why? A different kind of module impresses
    employers builds research skills as well as time
    management and independent learning
  • Not too late to change!

  • Elective and optional module choices
  • Enrolled for fewer than 120 credits? Attend
    electives fair in Great Hall / UG09 building
    (Tuesday-Thursday, 9-5) complete change of
    module form and obtain departmental stamp from
    the teaching department concerned. Give in the
    form at the fair or hand it in at your Centre for
    Joint Honours for inputting.
  • Already enrolled for 120 credits but want to
    change modules? Complete a change of module form,
    get this signed off by both department for module
    added and department for module dropped. Submit
    to CJA for inputting.
  • Choose electives at either level 3 (recommended)
    or level 2, not level 1. Balance credits across
    semesters.
  • Your responsibility to check pre-requisites and
    check for timetable clashes.

  • How to be a good researcher
  • Work with a member of staff
  • Undertake a substantive piece of research
  • Attend seminars/meetings of relevant research
    clusters
  • Gain research experience
  • Suitable for those with a high 2i average at
    level 2.

  • Changing modules
  • You are allowed to change optional or elective
    modules within the first couple of weeks of term,
    but beware that you will have missed some
    lectures.
  • Shadow any modules you may wish to switch into.
  • You will not be permitted to change modules later
    on.
  • Attendance
  • It is your responsibility to attend ALL sessions
    timetabled for your modules. Students not
    attending will be followed up and may be subject
    to the Unsatisfactory Student Procedure which can
    lead to permanent exclusion from the University.

    year reps. from all levels, all programmes. Need

    Planning, BSc, JHArts/Langs, JHScience.

  • Search online for vacancies
  • Help in finding placements (internships year
    placements project placements)
  • Careers officers (Sue Hawksworth, Lynda Hall)
    running surgeries in Geography every Wednesday
    from 1-2 pm. No appointment necessary just turn
    up. Starts in week 2 of teaching.
  • Submit a CV to the School for your file useful
    for us for writing future references. See
