• Most of the months have at least 1 holiday in it

What are some different holidays that we
celebrate?

• Thanksgiving
• Martin Luther King, Jr., Day
• Independence Day

Thanksgiving

• It is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November
  every single year
• The very first Thanksgiving happened in 1621
• On June 20, 1676 they had a meeting and said that
  June 29th was going to be a day of Thanksgiving

What is Thanksgiving For?

• On this day we give thanks for all that we have
• We remember the big feast that the Pilgrims and
  the Native Americans shared with each other

Who else Celebrates Thanksgiving?

• Canada celebrates Thanksgiving on the 2nd Monday
  in October
• Jewish Families celebrate a harvest festival
  Sukkuth each autumn
• The Chinese celebrate their harvest festival,
  Chung Chui, with the full moon on the 15th day
  in the 8th month

About Martin Luther King, Jr.

• His birthday is January 15, 1929
• He was assassinated on April 4, 1968 in Memphis,
  Tennessee
• He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his work
  on improving race relations

• It is celebrated on the third Monday in January
• We have this day to remember his dream for all
  people to live together in peace

  and speeches to celebrate him
• His most speech that he ever did was his I have

Independence Day

• Independence Day is also called Fourth of July
  sometimes
• It is called this because on July 4, 1776 America
  became free from England

• We celebrate it with parades and big firework
  shows
• We do this to show everyone that we are proud to
  be Americans

• The liberty bell is a symbol of Americas freedom
• It was rung on July 8, 1776 to call everyone to
  hear the very first reading of the Declaration of
  Independence
• The Statue of Liberty is also a symbol of freedom
  in America

• Holidays are celebrated differently by different
  people
• But they are ALL still important
