Theme Statement Life is filled with
magic. Paragraph of explanation This
statement relates to The Mirror of Merlin because
in the story Merlin uses his magical powers to
fight his enemies and help his friends. However,
he too is surrounded by magical powers that help
him throughout his journey. Things like running
springs or thick forests that provide water and
shelter are just two of these magical powers that
help Merlin. They may not be powers that lift
objects or shoot fire but they are magic
nonetheless.

Bird II. Character Analysis Merlin Merlin
is a magical wizard who is only fourteen but very
powerful for his age. Merlin comes to Fincayra on
accident, but he grows close to his new home.
Hallia Hallia is a deer person which means
she is able to change from a human to a deer. She
helps Merlin in his last journey, and they
continue to grow closer together. Arthur
(Ector) Arthur (Ector) is a boy who comes to
Fincayra to help his master. At first he goes by
the name of Ector. Then, later Merlin finds out
that his real name is Arthur and like himself has
a great destiny. Nimue Nimue is an evil
sorceress who is causing the marsh to grow.

Bird III. Plot Summary Exposition Merlin comes
to the magical island of Fincayra by accident.
Since he arrives, he helps destroy the evil king,
fights a dragon, and learns many magical skills.
Now he must find a way to stop the Haunted Marsh
from growing. Conflict The conflict in The
Mirror of Merlin is that there is some evil
force making the Haunted Marsh grow.
Complication A complication that Merlin has is
that he looses his sword causing him to go into
the Haunted Marsh to retrieve it. Climax The
Climax of The Mirror of Merlin is when Merlin
enters the Mirror and finds his true
identity. Resolution Merlin defeats Nimue by
pushing her into the Mirror causing her to become
lost in time.

Literary Element 1. Indirect
Characterization His shredded robes hung from
him like wilted petals, making him look like an
elderly beggar. Yet he couldnt have been older
than twelve. Pg 107 2. Simile Under the
stone archway, mist billowed and swirled, roving
about like an all seeing eye. Pg 7 3.
Personification (Referring to fire) Sizzling
fingers tugged at it, trying to hold it back, but
it pulled free. Pg 157

greater good, they may touch faraway shores,
altering their destinies long after youve gone.

explanation of this quote is to find who you
really are. Then, even if you dont prevail, what
you do will still amount to something later on.

Explanation This quote refers to the old adage
that quality is more important than quantity.
Its not what you do but how well you do
something that is important. Along with the
influence it has on life, being the power of
dreams
