  expedition
• There was an estimated 50,000 grizzly bears at
  the time of the Lewis Clark expedition

• There are substantial efforts being made to save
  the grizzly bear. Examples of this include
  efforts in Bitterroot Montana and Yellowstone
  National Park. These programs seek to
  re-introduce the grizzly bear into areas it once
  flourished in.
