TELEPHONES

• On the telephone we try to answer the patrons
  question in 3 minutes or less.
• If not, then the call is forwarded to the
  appropriate subject division.

THE SPIN

• We refer to the telephone collection as The Spin.
• The collection comprises some 350 reference
  titles.

• Is made up of a wide variety of material, such as
• World Book Encyclopedia
• Oxford English Dictionary
• Encyclopedia of Associations

• Does the Library have any copies of Harry Potter
  and the Order of the Phoenix?
• How many grams are in an ounce?
• What is the address for Paul Martin?

• What was the consumer price index for the years
  1980 to 1989?
• Can you recommend any books on dog training?

THE DESK

• At the Desk, the work is more directional in
  nature.
• Where will I find death records?
• How do I get a library card if I live in Surrey?
• Where are the washrooms?

INFO-EMAIL

• VPL also answers reference questions by email.
• The criteria for answering them is similar to the
  telephone.
• Quick answers, or
• Forwarded to the Subject Division
