27Reading Ideas - Elementary
- Students may be attacking unknown words using
three different techniques - Meaning (Pictures, what they know about the story
already, or their prior knowledge.) - Structure (Does it sound right using standard
English?) - Visual (Phonics - Letters or letter patterns)
- Comprehension Reading is thinking. Students
must internalize what is being read. - Have them retell the story or make predictions.
