About Our Project
  • For our project, we visited the Capital City
Rescue Mission in Albany. We scheduled an
interview and tour with the Director of
Development, Susan Jones. It was overall very
rewarding to find out how those less fortunate
are helped in our community by people who care.

About the CCRM
  • Capital City Rescue Mission is a non-profit,
    non-denominational, charitable organization. The
Mission is dedicated to proclaiming the
life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ to the
homeless and needy of the capital region,
providing for the whole person-body, mind and
spirit-that they will return to society maturing
    in Christ as productive citizens.

The BeginningOf Our Tour
  • At the start of our tour, Mrs. Jones took us to a
room of beds for those who come in off of the
streets for a place to stay. She also explained
to us the rules for room and board at the Capital
    City Rescue Mission.

Our Next Stop
  • After visiting the sleeping facilities, Mrs.
Jones brought us to the health room of the Rescue
Mission. Here, she introduced us to the health
staff. Surprisingly, one of the staff members
introduced was previously part of a nine-month
residential plan that the mission offers. He now
    lives there full-time.

The Dining Room
  • Next, we were taken to the dining room and
kitchen. Here, Mrs. Jones explained the menu
items and eating schedule to us, and introduced
us to the head chef, Maxwell.

Long-Term Housing Program
  • For the next part of our project, Mrs. Jones took
us up to the second floor to see the long-term
housing bedroom. On this floor, there are two
    different programs Nine-Month and Three-Month.
These men stay here in exchange for work or staff
    service.

Clothing Department
  • Mrs. Jones then brought us to the building where
they sort and sell donated clothing and other
items. In the front of a building was a store
    similar to the Salvation Army.
  • Clothes that are not in season or not in good
condition are compacted into cubes and sold by
weight to 3rd world countries to raise money for
    the mission.

  • Our last stop on our tour was the family housing
complex, where women and children live for
    extended periods of time.

  • People, even more than things, have to be
    restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and
    redeemed never throw out anyone.
