Introduction

• Black bear population is in danger of being
  reduced due to over hunting and human development
• New Hampshire 5,000 black bears
• Vermont 3,000 black bears

Purpose

• To find a sufficient area in Chittenden County,
  VT to support a bear refuge

• Ample food availability and variety
• Seclusion from Human Development
• Sufficient water sources
• Suitable land type
• Large space to roam

• Area of Polygon 1 33.1 sq. miles
• Area of Polygon 2 32.62 sq. miles

Conclusion

• We choose both polygons based on human
  development, water sources, type of habitat, and
  the areas of both polygons, which happen to be
  almost equal.
