14Recovery science
- ...... from the very beginnings of chemistry
until our own time, methods of separating
substances have occupied a key position in this
science .... and even today some of chemistrys
most important advances are linked to the
invention of new methods for separating various
substances. - Arne Tiselius, 1952

RECOVERY OF BIOLOGICAL PRODUCTS CONFERENCE
SERIES
261981 The inaugural year
Science and industry have come a long way to the
present, diversified array of expression and
production systems and from No approved
recombinant products in 1981 to 15 in 1991 to
around 100 approved products in 2001. Early
topics such as Recovery of low MW products such
as antibiotics, organic acids, and ethanol as
well as waste treatment have essentially disappear
ed from the Recovery series.
