ULSS
  • A SHIFT IN THINKING
  • In the past, services were provided to students
once it was determined that they needed academic
    and/or behavioral support.
  • Now, services should be provided to students
immediately if achievement begins to lag.

17
RTI
  • An approach that requires educators to match
    instruction
  • to the academic needs of students (differentiated
    instruction).
  • Responsibility for student achievement is a team
effort (student, family, regular and special
    educators, other service providers)
  • Intervention is most effective within the context
    of the regular classroom.
  • Most modifications are considered good teaching
    practices for ALL students.

18
WHY THIS MAKES SENSE
  • Everyone has a unique learning style. If we
    appropriately differentiate instruction to meet
the needs of diverse learners, achievement will
    likely improve.
  • Sometimes, we need help learning something new.
We may need extra one-on-one support or a model
in order to accomplish a task that doesnt make
us special education adults, it makes us human.
