"The dress of the bridegroom is regulated by that
chosen by the bride if she wears a white veil,
he is expected to appear in black trousers, dress
coat, which may be either black or blue, white
waistcoat, and white cravat
Imagine how many Victorian girls dreamed of and
planned their weddings while viewing these
beautifully hand coloured antique prints.

Ladies - as a guest at the wedding, what would
you wear? You would dress very well taking care
to have all the right accessories too, as well as
making sure your hair was correct and your shoes.
Men - you would have to remember to bring your
finest top hat

Can you put the Victorian ladies in the order in
which they dress?

The first clothes that A Victorian lady would put
on was a Chemise which was part of her underwear
and reached just below her knees. It had three
quarter length drawers underneath it.
Then the lady put on her corset which was laced
up at the back.
Then the Over Petticoat was put on. It often had
a pretty hem and was worn over her other
petticoats or a hoop petticoat.
Over her corset the Victorian lady wore Under
petticoats which were usually quite plain. She
might wear as many as six at a time, depending on
the season.
Finally her dress went on. A properly dressed
lady was never seen in public without a bonnet
and gloves.
Next the hoop petticoat went on.

in 1879 in Crouch End?

Burtons the Tailorswould NOT have been there in
1879 but it did arrive later, in 1895 in the new
shops that were built when Topsfield Hall was
knocked down.
We are going to find evidence of it when we go
out on our trail.
