Pet Care - Hamsters
  • provide the right environment as different
species can have very different needs
  • find out how your small mammal will change -
including its size and behaviour - as it matures,
so that you are aware of how it is likely to
interact with other animals and you make sure
the person who looks after your pet when you go
on holiday knows how to take care of it properly
  • find out when your pet is old enough to
    breed to avoid unwanted litters.

Choosing A Puppy
  • Puppies look cute and cuddly, but they may not be
the best choice for all dog owners-to-be.Dogs
and puppies need house-training, can be very
destructive and may not be ideal for families
which have elderly people or very young
children.Puppies may make an elderly person
trip or fall, or could be handled roughly or
trodden on by a young child. An adult dog may be
the best choice for people in these situations.

Keep Dogs Cool ?
  • Warm temperatures in summer mean that dogs could
potentially die or suffer from heatstroke if left
in their owners' cars. Each year the RSPCA
receives around 6,000 calls from members of the
public concerned about an animal left in a car on
the street, in a supermarket car park or at a
public event. It's not just cars that are the
problem - caravans and conservatories can also
    pose a risk.

I Found I Fox Cub What Should I do?
  • If its eyes are open, the cub is probably fine.
Usually the parents will be nearby to care for
it, but even if it has lost a parent, other
members of the family group will probably be
looking after it. Check the spot after 24 hours.
  • If you find an uninjured fox cub on a road or
somewhere very exposed or dangerous, you could
move it to a sheltered or safe spot nearby. Try
to handle the cub as little as possible. Check
the spot after 24 hours and you will probably
find it has been taken to safety by its parents.
  • If, after 24 hours, the cub is still in the same
safe spot, it is still often better to leave it
alone in the wild. It will have a better chance
of surviving if you do. You could help by leaving
some tinned dog food and water nearby.
  • If the animal is obviously sick, injured or
distressed take it to the nearest veterinary
surgery, but keep handling to a minimum, or
contact the RSPCA for advice via our 24-hour
    cruelty and advice line 0300 1234 999.
  • If you feel you must take the animal from the
area yourself, keep handling to an absolute
minimum and make a note of the exact location
where you found the cub. Foxes that become used
to humans do not survive well in the wild

STOP Cruelty
  • Stray strifeThe sight of stray cats and dogs
around holiday apartments and hotels is common in
lots of countries and it's all too tempting to
want to feed them. Please try not to! This simply
encourages more animals to the area who then rely
on the tourists for food. Once you've packed your
bags and gone home who's going to feed them? In
many countries, the local animal welfare
organisations have few resources to tackle this
problem so the kindest thing you can do is to
offer them money to help feed and neuter these
    strays.
