Title: In either word or ppt. Pick a character from the Lion King.
1The Lion King Todays task
- In either word or ppt. Pick a character from the
Lion King. - 1) Describe this character in detail.
- 2) Find two images. The Disney version and the
Theatre Production version by Julie Taymor. - 3) Write about the similarities and differences
between the images - 4) Write about the features Taymor has chosen to
emphasise - 5) Sketch the characters in your book
2- Example Mufasa
- 1) Mufasa is statesmanlike, powerful and strong.
He is wise and proud. He is a good father and an
excellent role model to his son. - 2)
- 3) The Disney version of Mufasa shows his mouth
pointing down, masses of hair (which for some
reason is bright orange) and a slightly raised
eyebrow. The theatre version is a lot more
natural in colour which is wood. It is
symmetrical. The headdress is much more ornate. - 4) It has the same very stern expression in the
mouth, which is pointing down. The eyes have very
strong brows, which are slightly furrowed which
may suggest that he is a deep thinker

5Rafiki-The Lion KingRafiki was one on the
main characters in the lion king. He was
effectively Simbas guardian in the film. He
presents Simba as a cub to the animal kingdom at
the beginning of the movie. Rafiki is a wise old
baboon, that gives samba advice on his destiny in
the movie. He is a lively and funny character.
3.) The similarities between the images are that
they are both very colourful, and will catch
peoples attention. The colours vary in blue,
brown, yellow, white and red. The costume has
tired to look as monkey like as possible, the
fingers made to look long and bony. Some of the
differences in the costume would be that the
theatre costume is overall more brown than blue,
whereas the Rafiki from the movie has blue
coloured skin.4.) The things Taymor has tired to
emphasise would be the colour on Rafikis face
they are rich colours and attract the audience
when he is talking during the play.
6Rafiki
- Rafiki is a loveable, clever and future
predicting monkey who assists Mufasa in all of
his decisions and choices. He is harmless and
helps out Simba whenever he can.
2)
- 3) Some similar things with these two characters
are that their faces are really colourful and
bright. One difference is that in the production
his body is also colourful, however in the film
he has a very dark and bland body. - Two things that they have chosen to emphasise are
the bright facial colours and the huge hands. The
face is full of vibrant colours and the hands are
much larger than average.
7difference between animation and thearte
The difference between the theatre scar and the
animation scar is that the theatre mask looks
more serious, powerful and the same eyebrows
which is blended in. in the movie scar acts
better than the theatre scar. The colour of the
hair is different and they both have the scar in
the same place. From his blacked out and shaded
eyes they try to put across that this character
is scary and demanding and may be a leader of a
certain angry pack of other beasts. His is put
across as a big bully and killer for the big
claws and big boned body
8The Hyenas Are silly , stupid and idiots.

9Simba ,the lion king
- I am basing my work simba from the lion king he

some children may have felt intimidated by the
theatre version. In the disney animated version

theatre it is more adrenalin and noise. - By Lauren Stevens
10- Scar is the younger brother of Mufasa, the uncle
of Simba, and second in line to the throne after
Simba was born. - Scar is jealous of Simba's position as the next
king of the Pride Lands, so he plots to
assassinate his brother and nephew, in order to
seize the throne. - He is an evil character and a bad-guy in this
film. - The parts that are emphasised are
- The mane
- The eyes
- The nose
- The hair on his chin

- Is more serious and has a mane.
- In the theatre production, the Simba has a mouth
- Pointing down, big scary eyes, snarling nose

14The lion king
- There are different similarities from the lion
king. (animated) and (theatre) the animated is
more child friendly as the theatre is more
intimidating. The animated one is more fun and
exciting for children and the theatre has more
adrenalin and a unique style. - By Jack Reynolds
