• Began in 1917
• 1.4 million members

• 738 Districts

• Membership open to men and women over the age of

The Lions Motto We Serve means that Lions
Clubs all over the globe can join together on
projects that effect the lives of peoples in any
of the worlds nations, devastated by natural
disasters, famine or epidemics.

District 1-A Lions Clubs

• Provide Glasses to those in need
• Take kids to the circus
• Provide Leader Dogs
• Support Sight First
• Sponsor Scouts, Little Leagues and other
  community projects

Lions Are,
Since 1925, Lions all over the world have put
prevention of blindness and aid to the visually
handicapped as their first priority. The Lions
have built hospitals, provided over three million
cataract operations in third world countries and
are responsible for research to preserve sight.
Lions led the way in eye tissue donations,
sponsoring eye banks and encouraging donor

The vision of 25 percent of the people in the
world can be improved with glasses. Local Lions
Clubs collect used eyeglasses and provide then to
people across the globe.

Lions Recycle for Sight

• Used eyeglasses are recycled by Lions all over
  the world, bringing the Gift of Sight to
  thousands every year.

• CRIS Radio
• Lions of Illinois Foundation
• Lions Eye Research Center
• and
• Thousands of Community Programs

Lions contribute to many community projects and
programs. Lions provide glasses to school
children, hearing aids and other appliances.
Lions have donated equipment to Fire
Departments, Parks and Community Centers. Supply
Raincoats to Safety Patrols, Food Baskets,
School Scholarships and Awards.

in Chicagoland. If you would like to give somet
hing back to your community, becoming a LION
allows you to meet with your neighbors, work on
community service projects and help those in
