Unpacking the Modules
  • Your modules should come in boxes with individual
    boxes inside
  • On the top of each box should be DVI, RJ45, and
    power cables (US only)
  • If you purchased a controller, there will be a
    PS2 dongle, a set of keyboard/mouse, and a packet
    of manuals with rack screws
  • If you order the MCC-C2RTP option, you will also
    have a touch screen
  • Do not throw these items away (If you lose these
    items, you will need to purchase new ones)
  • On the top of the controller will be a quality
    assurance check sheet along with a letter and
    some simple instructions to get the controller up
    and running

Cascading the Modules
  • Rack the modules as close to the controller as
    possible
  • If you have a single group or multiple groups
    with less than 15 modules, then you do not need a
    network hub
  • Follow the directions in the hardware manual for
    instructions and diagrams on how to wire your
    system
  • If you need a connection diagram, we can provide
    one for you to help you quickly cascade your
    modules

Starting the Controller
  • Once you have all the cables connected, make sure
    the power supply is set to either 115v or 225v
    depending on your region and power on the
    controller
  • If the controller is on a KVM switch, make sure
    you have it switched to the controller so you can
    see it boot
  • After the controller boots into Windows XP, power
    on all the modules
  • It is common for your group display to show a
    black screen, go to sleep, show a bunch of
    mangled pictures, or flicker at this point
  • For some controllers, Windows XP is password
    protected, in these situations, use the following
    Login/Password controller/avitech

Configuring Multiple Groups
  • To configure multiple groups from a single master
    module, connect a straight through Ethernet cable
    from the IP port on the controller to the IP port
    on the module
  • If you have a module with time code, make sure it
    is the first module in each group
  • The master module should be set to rotary ID0
    with each subsequent module having a higher ID
    number in increments of one

Starting Cosmos - Scan
  • From the desktop of the controller, run
    Scan_NetModules.exe
  • Select Broadcast to find all IP addresses in the
    system
  • If this does not return any results, power cycle
    the master in each group, and then try again
  • After the program detects 210.100.100.151, select
    Save and then exit the program
  • If you get any error messages, make sure the
    folder is not write protected

Starting Cosmos - Detect
  • Double-click on Cosmos on the desktop of the
    controller
  • The module detection report will show all active
    IP addresses with modules associated with that
    address
  • Make sure all your modules are detected in the
    dialog box, if they aren't, check the Rotary ID
    and then ReScan
  • Select Nextgt to continue

Select Total Monitors
  • Make sure Auto Set is unchecked and select the
    number of groups in your system
  • Auto Set allows you to set all the modules
    connected in multiple groups with a single module
    in each group or one group with all modules in a
    group
  • Select Nextgt to continue

Starting Cosmos Group Setup
  • At the Group 1 setup screen select the modules to
    be included in group 1 from the Available Module
    group and Include them in the Included Module
    group
  • Make sure to select NO VGA Overlay
  • From the drop down box, select the display
    resolution
  • Select Next to setup additional groups or Finish
    to complete the initialization process

Starting Cosmos Set Monitor
  • You do not have to do anything with this menu, it
    does not affect the output of each individual
    group and only serves as a map of your system
  • You can come back and set this later
  • Select OK to continue

Cosmos Control Center
  • The Cosmos Control Center is the first thing you
    will see when the software completes the
    initialization process
  • If you have multiple groups, you will see a
    number for each group
  • Select the number to choose the group you want to
    modify

Using Cosmos Buttons
  • TAKE command After making any changes on the
    control screen, make sure to select this to
    update the Group Display
  • Program menu These options affect all the
    modules in the system
  • Group menu Right-click in the black space to
    access this menu, options in this menu will
    affect only the selected group
  • Window menu Right-click in a window box to
    access this menu, options in this menu will
    affect only the selected window
  • Mode Three modes are available for different
    scenarios, they are as follows
  • System Status Allows operators to monitor the
    status of the system
  • Layout Control Allows operators to make changes
    to the layout and appearance of the windows
  • Touch Control Allows operators to interface with
    the software through a touch panel LCD
  • File menu Allows users to save group presets and
    to export labels

Create a Master Layout
  • The first thing to do is to create a master
    layout for you system, this is how the system
    will look whenever you power it on
  • Even if your system is constantly running 24/7,
    you should still create a master layout
  • To do this, follow the directions in the
    following pages to use the menus in Cosmos to
    setup all aspects of your monitor wall

Window Layout
  • To automatically arrange all the windows in a
    particular group, select Group Preset from the
    Group menu and then select a layout
  • To open the Group menu, right click on any black
    space or right click on a window and select Open
    Group Menu
  • If you need to lock the aspect ratio of a
    particular window to 43 or 169, right click on
    the window and select Fix AR in Resizing and
    choose either 43 or 169

Manual Window Layout
  • To manually adjust the position of a window, left
    click and hold in the middle of a window and then
    drag it to a new position and release the left
    click
  • To manually adjust the size of a window, left
    click and hold on the border of a window and then
    drag the border until the size is what you want
    it to be
  • After each action, make sure to select Take or
    the F5 key to update the group display with the
    control display

Turning On/Off Labels
  • By default, all the labels are turned of when
    Cosmos initializes
  • To turn it on, select ProgramCommonInformation,
    make sure Label is checked and select OK (Repeat
    and make sure Label is unchecked to turn it off)
  • To change the Font or colors properties of the
    label, select ProgramCommonSet Label Properties

Entering Label Names
  • There are two ways to enter in label names, you
    can enter them in all at once for the entire
    system, enter all the names one group at a time,
    or enter them in one window at a time
  • To enter labels for an entire system, select
    ProgramSetup All Video Window Labels
  • To enter labels for a single group, select Set
    Group Video Window Labels from the group menu
  • To enter a label for a single window, right click
    on a window and select Set Label Properties

Turn On/Off Cocks
  • By default the clock is digital and is turned off
    when Cosmos is initialized
  • To turn on the clock, select Add/Remove Module
    Time Clock from the group menu and then select mt
    under the module you want to enable the clock
    from and choose either count down or count up
    time, select OK to turn on the clock
  • The digital clock should appear in the top left
    corner of the display, if there is a window
    there, move it to reveal the clock
  • To change the properties of the clock, right
    click on it and select Setup
  • Read the additional guides for setting up an
    analog clock or time code clock

Turn On/Off Audio Meters
  • By default the audio meters are turned off when
    Cosmos is initialized
  • To turn On the audio meter, select
    ProgramCommonSet MCC8000 Audio meter
  • For embedded audio, select Show All and then
    choose the audio group to display on the left and
    right side
  • For Analog and AES audio, select the last three
    check boxes and under the second drop down menu,
    select AA/AES

Audio Meter Wiring Diagram
  • For AES Audio, use the J1 block for audio inputs
  • For Analog Audio, use both J1 and J2 blocks of
    audio inputs

Using GPIO
  • The GPIO for a given system can be only used for
    Input or Output but not both, so before putting
    together a system, you must decide what you want
    to use it for
  • By default, all eight contact closures are set
    aside for tally, two for each video input
  • Other input functions include loading presets
    (18), and controlling the clock (2, 4, 6, 8)
  • Output features alarm output (2, 4, 6, 8) where a
    voltage is supplied when a No Video or No Audio
    alarm is triggered

Saving Your Work
  • When you are finished creating the master layout,
    you can save it to flash memory by one of two
    ways
  • Quit Cosmos and select Save All when prompted
  • Select ProgramMCC FlashSave System and write to
    flash
  • This will save you the hassle of going through
    the initialization process the next time you
    launch Cosmos
  • If you need to physically rewire your modules or
    groups or change the output resolution of your
    display groups, follow the directions in the next
    section

Starting from Scratch
  • When the modules in a system are power cycled,
    the master layout in the flash memory is loaded,
    Cosmos also loads the same layout every time it
    is started up
  • If you need to physically change the grouping of
    your system or change the output resolution of
    the groups, then you need to start over from
    scratch
  • To start over from scratch, select Program-MCC
    Files-Clear All System Files
  • You will be prompted twice, make sure you select
    YES both times
  • The next time you start Cosmos, you will be asked
    to initialize the system

Backing Up Data
  • After you are done with setting up a system, it
    is a good idea to back up the entire
    CosmosV4xxxxxxxx folder on a removable disc such
    as a flash drive, CD, or a file server
  • It is also a good idea to save other crucial
    information such connection diagrams of your
    system and anything else pertinent to your
    configuration
