How do butterflies hide from their predators?
  • Many butterflies hide their bright colors and
    blend in with their surroundings
  • Some butterflies and moths have large eye spots
that make them look like scary animals and
    frighten predators away
  • Butterflies can also eat different types of
plants such as milkweed. If a predator eats the
butterfly, the predator tastes the milkweed and
    remembers this unpleasant taste

6
Butterfly Life Cycle
  • The butterfly life cycle includes four stages of
    life
  • First stage egg
  • Second stage caterpillar (or larva)
  • Third stage pupa
  • Last stage adult

7
How do butterflies eat?
  • Adult butterflies dont eat--they only drink.
They drink liquids from flowers or juice from
    rotten fruit
  • Caterpillars, on the other hand, do very little
but eat leaves or other plant parts for most
    species
  • Some moths, including the luna, have no mouth
parts at all as adults and cannot eat. They live
just a few days, reproduce, and die
