What is the grant
  • The Benefits Enrollment Center grant was
    developed by NCOA to help give seniors and people
    with disabilities one stop shop option to obtain
    benefits
  • Benefits include benefits such as
  • Medicare Savings Program
  • Medicare Part D and Low income subsidy
  • SNAP (formerly food stamps)
  • Maine property tax and rent rebates

  • Office of Elder Services
  • Legal Services for the Elderly
  • Maine Area Agencies on Aging
  • Goodwill Industries, SCSEP program
  • Maine Department of Labor
  • St. Croix Regional Technical Center at Calais
    High School
  • A multitude of towns, libraries, health centers

What are the models for BEC in Maine?
  • Electronic kiosks-
  • Computer screens that use touch screen technology
    strategically placed in rural community sites
  • SCSEP trainees and volunteers will help provide
    support at the sites on use of the websites and
    to perform basic information and assistance about
    benefits

  • Mobile van stations-
  • Use of vans to deliver outreach and enrollment
    clinics throughout rural regions

Reporting and data collection
  • Reports will include numbers of people served and
    number of people enrolled in benefits for the
    grant period
  • Anticipate that use of new models of benefits
    enrollment will help to increase number of people
    served especially in rural coverage areas
